Chinese State, Pro-China Accounts Promote New State-Run Website Meant to Attract Taiwanese Youth to China

Since July 15, Chinese state actors and pro-China accounts have promoted Taiwan Youth e-Home (台青e家, 920job[.]com), a website affiliated with China's Taiwan Affairs Office, as a gateway for Taiwanese youth to pursue education, employment, and other opportunities in China. Taiwanese authorities have warned that the platform supports Beijing's unification agenda and may collect users' personal information ahead of Taiwan’s Nov. 28 local elections, allegations which Chinese state media and officials dismissed.

What We Found

Key Findings

  1. Website Launch and Purpose

On July 15, Chinese state-linked media Taiwan[.]cn introduced Taiwan Youth e-Home, a website operated by Beijing Straits Cultural Exchange Co., Ltd., a company owned by the Jiuzhou Cultural Communication Center under China's Taiwan Affairs Office. The website was presented as a platform to help Taiwanese youth pursue exchanges, study, internships, employment, and other opportunities in China.

  2. Pro-China Promotion Campaign

Following the launch, China's Taiwan Affairs Office, Chinese state-linked media, and pro-China accounts on Facebook, Instagram, Threads, TikTok, X, and YouTube promoted the website, portraying it as a resource for Taiwanese youth to pursue careers and "realize their dreams" in China.

  3. Taiwan's Official Warning Spreads

After Taiwan's Mainland Affairs Council warned on July 27 that the website advances Beijing's unification agenda and could collect Taiwanese users' personal information, Taiwanese media outlets, the ruling Democratic Progressive Party, and pro-Taiwan accounts pushed the warning across Facebook, Instagram, and X.

  4. China Dismisses the Concerns

Two days later, Chinese state media and pro-China accounts on Facebook, X, and YouTube spread remarks by the Taiwan Affairs Office spokesperson dismissing the concerns as deliberate smears and reiterating that the platform was intended to support Taiwanese youth seeking opportunities in China.
